How to Care for Your Silver Jewellery
How to Care for Your Silver Jewellery
All silver can tarnish over time, leaving your jewellery looking dull and uninspiring, but the good news is that it‘s not too difficult to restore their original shine, and you can do it at home! To clean your silver jewellery, you will need:
- Bicarbonate of Soda
- A bowl lined with aluminium foil
- A bowl of clean water
First, take your bowl lined with aluminium foil and place your pieces inside. Then sprinkle a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda over your jewellery. Pour just enough boiling water into the bowl to cover the pieces.
Leave your items to soak for around 10 minutes before removing your jewellery carefully from the bowl and rinsing the items in the bowl of clean water.
If you find that this method is not completely effective, there is another technique that you can try. You will need:
- A reused toothbrush
- Bicarbonate of Soda
- A bowl of clean water
First rinse your jewellery in warm water. Then apply bicarbonate of soda to a reused toothbrush creating a paste and gently scrub the tarnished silver. When you are satisfied that all the tarnishing has been removed, rinse the item again to remove the cleaning paste.
Once your jewellery is clean, gently pat the items dry with clean kitchen roll. Now that your jewellery is clean and dry, you will want to stop it from tarnishing again.
Wrap each item individually in tissue paper and store them securely in your airtight bag to prevent further tarnishing. Now you can enjoy your bright and beautiful jewellery for many years to come.
